How It All Started
HPSO began in 1980 when it launched the Professional Liability Insurance Program, which provided coverage for medical malpractice claims resulting from negligence or errors committed by healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and therapists, among others. This program was designed to provide protection against costly medical malpractice lawsuits that could put healthcare professionals out of business.
Partnership with CNA & Expanded Coverage
In 1984, HPSO established a partnership with CNA as its underwriter for the Professional Liability Insurance Program and this resulted in significant savings on premiums for insured healthcare professionals. Two years later in 1986, HPSO expanded its program to offer coverage to businesses and practices that employed physical therapists and earned the endorsement of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Continuing Education Programs & Online Applications
In 1994, HPSO began offering continuing education programs so that insured professionals could stay up-to-date on best practices in their field and published its first claim report. Two years later, HPSO launched its first website which made it easier for customers to access information about different types of coverage offered as well as file a claim online if necessary. Then in 1998, HPSO introduced an online application making it even easier for healthcare professionals to apply for coverage quickly and easily.
Business Owners Coverage Extension Becomes Available
In 2009, we extended our business owners coverage offering to include owners for the work they do outside of their business or practice. This was an important step for us as it allowed us to provide much needed protection for those that are self-employed or own partnerships. It also ensured that our customers could continue doing what they love without worrying about potential legal issues arising from their work.
Introducing Coverage Solutions for Animal Therapy, Sexual Misconduct & More
In 2010, we began offering coverage solutions for animal therapy, sexual misconduct, information privacy, workplace violence counseling and more. This allowed us to provide greater protection and peace of mind to our customers by covering areas that were previously not covered under traditional liability insurance policies.
Expanded Coverage Options for 80 Additional Healthcare Professions
We expanded our coverage options in 2016 to include 80 additional healthcare professions such as acupuncturists, naturopaths, pharmacy technicians and more. This was an important milestone in our company’s history as it enabled us to serve an even wider range of healthcare professionals across the country.
Launched New Website for Easier Accessibility
In 2021 we launched a new website making it easier for customers to access our products and services. Our new website features improved navigation tools and comprehensive risk education resources so that users can quickly find the information they need with minimal effort.
